Angina Referred Pain

Deactivate and Resolve Pain Trigger Points with Massage Therapy at Therapeutic Massage Spas in Blaine, Anoka County, Minneapolis – St Paul MN

There are trigger points in the body that cause pain when activated. This pain is often mistaken as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tendonitis, sciatic symptoms or angina pectoris. It is, therefore, very important to be diagnosed properly. If trigger points are the actual cause of pain they can be deactivated by massage therapy. You can ask for this from a trained massage therapist who gives various massage modalities such as reflexology massage therapy, deep tissue massage therapy, Swedish massage therapy, sports massage therapy and pregnancy massage therapy at a professional therapeutic massage spa in Blaine,  Anoka County, Minneapolis – St Paul MN.

Dr. Janet G. Travell discovered and mapped out trigger points in the body in 1942. She published a significant number of papers and books on the treatment of such trigger points. Eventually, Dr. Travell became the personal physician of US President John F. Kennedy whose chronic back pain she was able to treat successfully.

Trigger points are contracted nodules located in tightened bands of muscles. By themselves they already cause localized pain. In addition to that they also radiate or refer pain to other parts of the body, even to distant body parts.

There are several types of trigger points such as active and latent trigger points, key and satellite trigger points, and primary and secondary trigger points.

An active trigger point refers pain actively to at least one other point in the body. When pressed, an active trigger point is painful.

A latent trigger point does not actively refer pain to any other body part. When pressed, it may not be painful. Pressure or strain may, however, activate a latent trigger point. Even a latent trigger point could result in poor coordination and balance.

When an active trigger point is deactivated it just becomes latent. One should therefore go for complete resolution and not just deactivation.

A latent trigger point can be created or activated by pain referred by a key trigger point. This latent trigger point activated by the key trigger point is then called a satellite trigger point. Deactivating or completely resolving the key trigger point also deactivates or completely resolves the satellite trigger point.

Primary trigger points, on the other hand, activate a secondary trigger point through biomechanical means. If the primary trigger point is deactivated or completely resolved, the secondary trigger point is not affected.

The massage therapy used by trained massage therapists to address trigger points is called myotherapy. The therapist finds the particular trigger points of the client and uses deep prolonged pressure to deactivate and completely resolve these. After the trigger points have been resolved, the therapist stretches, elongates and relaxes the muscles and fascia through their natural range of motion. This helps prevent recurrence of the trigger points.

Make sure that you get treatment from a therapist who has been genuinely trained in trigger point massage therapy because the trigger points will not be deactivated and completely resolved without the proper techniques, proper pressure and length of application of pressure. If too much pressure is applied for too long, the trigger points could even get bruised, latent trigger points may be activated or new ones could even be created.

Resolving existing trigger points is not a guarantee that new ones will not develop. This can be prevented from happening, though, with regular massage therapy. You have a choice from among various massage therapy modalities such as reflexology massage therapy, deep tissue massage therapy, Swedish massage therapy, sports massage therapy and pregnancy massage therapy given at professional therapeutic massage spas in Blaine,  Anoka County, Minneapolis – St Paul MN.

What is the cheapest route for chest pains/heart issues?

I’m not going to expect a diagnosis from the interweb, so my question is this. I’m a 25 year old, I have OK insurance, but not top notch. I can’t afford much in the way of medical bills. About 2 weeks ago, I started having shallow breathing, and about half the time if I try to take a deep breath, I can’t really “top out”. It almost feels like indigestion. I’ve considered it could be angina, I’m a non smoker (i smoked for about a year awhile back), and exercise often (ride my bike about 10-15 miles a day). I eat healthy, but have a family history of heart disease.

What is the cheapest reliable route? If I go to a general prac., I assume he’ll charge me and refer me. If I go to the ER, what can they do for me? Should I go straight to a specialist? I feel fine, sleep fine, an don’t get anymore short of breath after rigorous exercise than I did prior to this “issue”…. I’m almost starting to get used to the shallow breathing, but I know I can’t ignore it.

Er will only do what is medically necessary and in most cases send you home and tell you to follow up with your regular physician. In most cases you can’t see a specialist without a referral since they only take appointments from established patients so, your best bet is to make an immediate appointment with your doctor and get a referral to a cardiologist.

Sharp pain under left breast?

I have this sharp pain under my left breast that hurts when I breathe deeply, laugh, and lay on my left side and stomach. This past weekend I slept with a strapless bra that was a bit tight and woke up both mornings on my left side. I never sleep with a bra at night but it was Halloween weekend and I was too lazy to take it off both nights.
I’ve already looked up some possible symptoms which is Angina and gas. I don’t think I have Angina because I don’t have the sharp pain in my inner arms, sweating, or nausea. And I’m not sure about gas because I haven’t had this sharp pain under my left breast before.
So I’m hoping this pain is a muscle strain from sleeping with a strapless under wire bra in probably an awkward position???

Basically all that it is is “heart burn” the under wire bra didn’t help though. i think what the bra did was “pinch” you so hard that it was giving you a hard time to breath. sometimes when I get heart burn it’s either because I’d held my breath to long or I had a side ache and then it turned into heart burn. I would maybe try and switch to a demi cup just while you still have the heart burn so the bra won’t make it worse. Just drink some bubbly drinks to try and push the gas out of your system. I hope this helps!!! and I hope you feel better (i know it’s a scary and uncomfortable feeling)

PLEASE ANSWER MINE!!!

3 Killer Diseases: How To Avoid Them

Hypertension is known as the silent killer because its outward symptoms are difficult to detect. Hypertension occurs as a result of increased resistance to blood flow of the small blood vessels which have muscular walls. Most types of high blood pressures are caused by arterioles losing their ability to relax normally.

In order to avoid hyper tension, here are 3 easy tips you can follow.

1.    Having a well-balanced diet coupled with a reduction in alcohol intake are often top of the list on doctor’s recommendations for high blood pressure. Truly, obesity and excessive alcohol consumption are both important causes of hypertension.

2.    Cut down on salt. Statistics show that cutting down on salt intake can reduce the risks of hypertension. Even when this is treated with drugs, it is possible to achieve further reductions in blood pressure through modest reductions of salt intake.

3.    Exercise. Regular exercise can have a good effect on lowering your blood pressure. Start with a moderate routine. Remember not to overdo it because excessive exercise for someone who is undiagnosed with severe hypertension is at risk of having a heart attack. Always consult your doctor first before starting any exercise if you are diagnosed with hypertension.

Next is diabetes. Too much glucose in the blood indicates development of the ailment known as diabetes. Its common symptoms are thirst, frequent urination due to excess glucose, weight loss, tiredness and recurrent infections.

Below is a list of things you can do to prevent or if diagnosed, control diabetes or sugar levels.

1.    Eat starchy, high fiber foods such as wholemeal bread, beans, peas and lentils. All of these foods cause only a gradual rise in blood sugar because the fiber contents slow down the release of glucose.

2.    Cut down on anything sweet like cakes, chocolates and icecream. The sugar is absorbed quickly and therefore causes blood glucose levels to rise more rapidly.

3.    Limit salt and salty foods, because of the diabetic’s increased susceptibility to high blood pressure.  Be aware of the hidden salt in many tinned, smoked and processed foods.

And last but definitely not the least is heart disease. A lot has been said about coronary heart disease. We all are aware of the consequences of this. What is most important is that you know how to prevent it or at least lower your chances of getting it.

1.    Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as part of your diet. The antioxidant vitamins they contain help to prevent arteries from becoming furred up.

2.    Stress and tension have long been recognized as major factors in raising the risks of angina and coronary heart disease. Avoid them!

3.    Regular exercise not only keeps obesity and thrombosis at bay, but also encourages blood circulation.

4.    While one or two glasses of wine may benefit your heart, smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol are two habits to avoid.

Go back to your doctor ASAP. This could be nothing more than a strained muscle….it could be a pinched nerve of some kind….or it could be angina…….or even symptoms of a blockage. These type of symptoms should NEVER be ingnored…..because your life could be at risk.

Please call your doctor (or cardiologist) and get an appointment to see him ASAP. If you develop ANY additional symptoms, please dial 911 or go straight to an emergency room, as, again, your life could very well depend on it!

Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest system of health care in the world and originates from the Indian subcontinent.

Ayurveda is based on scientific principles of diagnosis and treatment. It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology.

Ayurveda has been a vogue since 5000 years ago. Our Vedas have been repeated references to the efficacy of Ayurveda as a science of healthy life. The western world is now realizing the value of Ayurveda in treating Chronic diseases like Arthritis, Paralysis, Stroke, Neurological disorders etc. Even WHO has given high rating for Ayurveda system.

It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology. The increasing awareness of herbal medicines in Western markets such as USA, UK, Canada and Japan and the technological advancements in biotech industry were two major reasons which compelled us to offer a platform like this.

The key to the success of www.AyurvedicCure.com is the quality of the ingredients they use, the way in which formulae are based on ancient Ayurvedic traditions, a careful manufacturing process and an ongoing research program for testing and evaluating new and old products.

Here are some Important Herbs and their Uses:

Ashvagandha ( Withania Somnifera), ( Winter Cherry): Traditionally, Ashwagandha has been used in many ways–as a sedative, a diuretic, a rejuvenating tonic, an anti-inflammatory agent, and as an “adaptogen” (endurance enhancer). Many Western herbalists refer to this herb as “Ayurvedic ginseng” because of its reputation for increasing energy, strength, and stamina, and for its ability to relieve stress. It is especially beneficial in stress related disorders such as arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, general debility, etc. It has also shown impressive results when used as stimulants for the immune system.

Amla ( Emblica officinalis), ( Indian Goosebery): Amla contains the highest amount of Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid), Phyllembin, Phyllemblic acid, Gallic acid, Ellagic acid in natural form and Cytokin like substance identified as Zeatin, Z riboside, Z nucleotide, Tannins 30%. It is one of the strongest rejuvenatives in Indian pharmacopoeia. It contains 30 times the amount of Vitamin C found in oranges. Its antibacterial, carminative, hypoglycemic, stomachic, Hypotensive and astringent action prevents infection, helps in healing of ulcers, treatment of jaundice, dyspepsia and cough and controls hyperacidity. Alma is a good Cardio Tonic and its mild stimulant action on heart helps to control blood pressure. The use of Indian Gooseberry enhances the antidiabetic action of Karela. Phyllanthus Emblica is a very good hair tonic.

Brahmi (Bacopa Monniera): Aside from increasing intellectual and cognitive function, Brahmi induces a sense of calm and peace in its users. It is unique in its ability to invigorate mental processes whilst reducing the effects of stress and nervous anxiety. This makes Brahmi extremely applicable in highly stressful work or study environments where clarity of thought is as important as being able to work under pressure. Many people have the intelligence to perform to strict standards, but lack the composure and self-confidence to reach them. Additionally, Brahmi helps soothe the restlessness and distraction that nervousness causes. Brahmi is ideal for students and workers faced with this problem.

Shallaki ( Boswellia Serrata): Today its major use is as an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, low back pain, myositis, fibrositis, and osteoarthritis. Experimental and clinical usage of boswella indicates it has none of the side effects on blood pressure, heart rate of the gastric irritation and ulcers associated with many anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic drugs. It is now an approved herbal medicine in India for use against osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, low back pain, myositis and fibrositis. In the United States, physicians are giving boswella high marks for effectiveness. Dr. E. W. McDonagh, a Kansas City physician, has reported success among some 350 patients suffering from a variety of advanced muscular and skeletal conditions for which other treatments had failed to help.

Karela ( Bitter Gourd), ( Bitter Melon), ( Momordica charantia) : Bitter Melon, also known as Karela, Momordica Charantia or Bitter Gourd is a herb that helps regulate blood sugar levels and keeps body functions operating normally. It contains Gurmarin, a polypeptide considered to be similar to bovine insulin, which has been shown in experimental studies to achieve a positive sugar regulating effect by suppressing the neural response to sweet taste stimuli. Karela’s principle constituents are lectins, charantin and momordicine. The fruits have long been used in India as a folk remedy for diabetes mellitus. Lectins from the bitter gourd have shown significant antilipolytic and lipogenic activities.

Shilajit (Asphaltum) : This is Shilajit, one of Ayurvedas most potent and unique rejuvenatives. The ancient medical literature attributes many health benefits to Shilajit known as “conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness.” It has been said that there is hardly any curable disease which cannot be assisted with the aid of Shilajit. Shilajit has been used historically for general physical strengthening, anti-aging, blood sugar stabilization, libido, injury healing, urinary tract rejuvenation, enhanced brain functioning potency, bone healing, kidney rejuvenation, immune system Strengthening, arthritis, hypertension, obesity and many other application for numerous conditions.

Garlic ( Lasuna), ( Allium sativum): The platelet and hypolipidemic activities of Lasuna ensures smooth coronary function. Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure and tension are reduced because it has the power to ease the spasm of the small arteries. It also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm, besides relieving the symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive track. It has an antiseptic effect and is an excellent remedy for infectious diseases and inflammations of the stomach and intestine. Human population studies show that eating garlic regularly reduces the risk of esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer. This is partly due to garlic’s ability to reduce the formation of carcinogenic compounds.

Triphala: Triphala, a cornerstone of ayurvedic medicine, is a composite herbal preparation containing equal proportions of the fruits of three myrobalans, Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and Terminalia bellirica. When consumed for a long period, it helps reduce excess weight. It promotes good colon health and acts as a laxative without causing cramps or irritation. It gently stimulates the intestinal walls and restores tone to the colon, thus helping in the elimination process, providing a colon cleansing effect. Guggulu: ( Bedellium), ( COMMIPHORA MUKUL): Studies show that a 14-27% of LDL cholesterol and 22-30% of triglycerides levels were reduced when guggul was given to men and women with high cholesterol for 12 weeks with no change in diet or exercise. Research with laboratory animals suggests guggul may help enhance thyroid function. Since the thyroid gland produces hormones that are needed to regulate metabolism, it can help in weight loss. Studies show guggul may change thyroid hormone metabolism, increase levels of circulating T3, or triiodothyroxine, a thyroxine metabolite known to raise overall metabolism, which in turn increases fat burning. Since guggul supports atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), which may impede blood flow to and from the penis, guggul may possibly be the treatment for impotence many men are looking for.

Tulsi ( Holy Basil), ( Tulasi): Tulsi has antioxidant properties, and helps boost the body’s ability to fight off damaging free radicals, which have been linked to disease and aging. It is an adaptogen that helps the body fight the effects of ongoing stress and also balances the mind, nerves and emotions. Tulsi maintains the health of the throat chest and lungs. In fact, it helps protect the entire respiratory tract. It is an anti-inflammatory. A herb that promotes optimum respiratory support. Tulasi has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant properties and is useful in respiratory tract infections. It helps during respiratory stress.

Neem (AZADIRACHTA INDICA): Neem effectively kills the bacteria that cause Acne and studies prove that Neem will reduce inflammation, even the inflammation produced by Acne. In the case of eczema clinical studies demonstrate that even the application of weaker Neem leaf extracts effectively cured acute conditions of eczema, what to speak of the fresh cold pressed oil with its high concentration of active ingredients.Modern clinical studies have identified a number of compounds in the Neem tree that effectively regulate immune system functions. Whether drinking a simple cup of tea out of the leaves or taking extracts of the Neem leaf, Neem significantly and consistently reduced insulin requirements for nonkeytonic, insulin fast, and insulin sensitive forms of Diabetes. The pain, inflammation, and swelling of the joints in arthritis can be greatly reduced by different compounds in Neem

Arjuna (TERMINALIA ARJUNA): Arjun improves cardiac muscle function and pumping actions of the heart. Scientific studies have shown Arjun to be very effective when used regularly over a period of time for the treatment of angina, coronary artery disease, heart failure, edema, and possibly hypercholesterolemia. Studies have also shown Arjun to have positive effects in the treatment of gonorrhea. Externally, this herb has been used to treat acne, blemishes, wounds, dysentery, and diarrhea.

Tagara ( Valeriana Wallichi): Valerian root has been used for centuries to calm nervous disorders. Scientific experiments conducted with laboratory animals in West Germany have demonstrated that valerian root corrects muscle spasms and tremors, reduces excitement and irritability, lowers high blood pressure, and calms the central nervous system. Indian Valerian is prescribed as a remedy for hysteria, hypochondria, nervous unrest and emotional troubles. It is also used as a carminative and forms an ingredient of a number of ayurvedic recipes.

What is Arteriosclerosis?

Arteriosclerosisis a disease of the arterial wall in which the layer thickens, causing narrowing of the channel and thus, impairing blood flow. Arteriosclerosiscan occur in any area of the body, but is most important when it happens in the heart, brain or blood vessels leading to the brain. The narrowing is due to the formation of plaques (raised patches) in the inner lining of the arteries. These plaques consist of low-density lipoproteins, decaying muscle cells, fibrous tissue, and clumps of blood platelets, cholesterol, and sometimes calcium. They tend to form in regions of turbulent blood flow and are found most often in people with high concentrations of cholesterol in the bloodstream.

Causes of Arteriosclerosis:

The exact cause of Arteriosclerosisisn’t known. However, studies show that Arteriosclerosisis a slow, complex disease that may start in childhood. It develops faster as you age.

Arteriosclerosismay start when certain factors damage the inner layers of the arteries. These factors include:

  • Smoking
  • High amounts of certain fats and cholesterol in the blood
  • High blood pressure
  • High amounts of sugar in the blood due to insulin resistance or diabetes

Who Is At Risk for Arteriosclerosis?

Coronary heart disease (Arteriosclerosisof the coronary arteries) is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. The exact cause of atherosclerosis isn’t known. However, certain traits, conditions, or habits may raise your risk for the disease. These conditions are known as risk factors. Your chances of developing Arteriosclerosisincrease with the number of risk factors you have.

You can control most risk factors and help prevent or delay Arteriosclerosis. Other risk factors can’t be controlled.

Symptoms ofArteriosclerosis:

Unfortunately, Arteriosclerosisproduces no symptoms until the damage to the arteries is severe enough to restrict blood flow.  Restriction of blood flow to the heart muscle due to Arteriosclerosiscan cause angina pectoris or a myocardial infarction (a heart attack). Restriction of blood flow to the muscles of the legs causes intermittent claudication (pains in the legs brought about by walking and relieved by rest).

Narrowing of the arteries supplying blood to the brain may cause transient ischemic attacks (symptoms and signs of a stroke lasting less than 24 hours) and episodes of dizziness, or ultimately, to a stroke itself.

Treatment for Arteriosclerosis

Early preventive care for people at high risk for Arteriosclerosisis essential to reducing the risk of heart attack and maintaining good health. Creating a personalized program involves:

  • Cardiology consultation

The patient meets with a cardiologist who specializes in preventive assessment of cardiovascular risk and treating novel risk factors. This includes reviewing test results and recommending therapies, preventive measures, lifestyle changes, as well as assessing the patient’s suitability for clinical studies of new treatments.

  • Novel Risk Factor Management

A patient may have novel risk factors with or without having other conventional risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure. Treatment options will depend on what risk factors the patient has. For managing novel risk factors, the therapies may involve increasing daily intake of folate and other B vitamins or omega-3 fatty acids, participating in appropriate clinical studies of new treatments, or monitoring closely to determine if other risk factors for heart disease develop.

  • · Coordinated care

Patients can follow their treatment program through Mayo Clinic or through the clinic of their choice. Mayo Clinic will coordinate with the patient’s primary care physician to share findings and recommendations and ensure a coordinated, individualized, long-term approach to the patient’s cardiovascular health.

  • Percutaneous angioplasty

Coronary (percutaneous) angioplasty is a common medical procedure used to treat narrowings in the arteries that supply blood to the heart.

  • Surgery

Surgery may be needed for coronary and peripheral vascular diseases. Procedures that may be required are coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) and peripheral vascular bypass surgery.

Prevention :

The following lifestyle changes can help prevent Arteriosclerosis:

  • Eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol, and low-salt diet.
  • Eat fish. Adding fish to the diet at least twice a week has been shown to be helpful. Do not fry the fish, as this destroys the benefit.
  • If you don’t like to eat fish, try a fish oil supplement.
  • Exercise 30 minutes every day. If you are overweight, you should get 60 – 90 minutes of exercise a day.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Mild to moderate consumption of alcohol or wine (1-2 drinks per day) may also reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Too much alcohol, however, does more harm than good.
  • If you have one or more risk factors for heart attack or stroke, ask your doctor if you should take aspirin every day. Aspirin can help some people reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Work with your doctor to bring your blood pressure into the normal range. This may require medication. Follow your doctor’s recommendations for treating and controlling diabetes and other diseases.

angina decubitus

angina pectoris decubitus?

Angina Decubitus is a form of angina that occurs when a person is lying down (not necessarily during sleep). It occurs because the fluids in the body are redistributed in this position due to gravity, and the heart has to work harder.

Angina pectoris, also called angina, is temporary chest pain or a sensation of pressure that occurs while the heart muscle is not receiving enough oxygen.
