Angina Causes Symptoms Information With Treatment

Angina pectoris is the result of myocardial ischemia caused by an imbalance between myocardial blood supply and oxygen demand. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis. This pain is known as angina. It is more likely to occur during exertion (e.g. walking, climbing stairs) when the heart muscle needs more blood and oxygen as it works harder. Angina usually occurs during exertion, severe emotional stress, or after a heavy meal. During these periods, the heart muscle demands more blood oxygen than the narrowed coronary arteries can deliver. Angina is common. It affects about 1 in 50 people and there are estimated to be 1.2 million people with angina in the UK. It is more common in men than women and the likelihood of it occurring increases with age. Angina also can occur in people with valvular heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (this is an enlarged heart due to disease) or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Typical angina is uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest. Many types of chest discomfort aren’t related to angina. Acid reflux (heartburn) and lung infection or inflammation are examples.

Causes of Angina

The common Causes of Angina :

Heart failure

Narrowing of the aortic heart valve

Anaemia,

Abnormal heart rhythms

Fast, abnormal heart rhythms,

Diseases of the heart muscle.

Coronary artery spasm (also called Prinzmetal’s angina)

Symptoms of Angina

Some Symptoms of Angina :

Shortness of breath

Nausea

Feeling of moderate to severe indigestion that is persistent

Perspiration

Sharp, burning or cramping pain

Numbness or a loss of feeling in your arms, shoulders or wrists.

May also occur in the arms, shoulders, neck, jaw, throat, or back

Usually start in the chest behind the breastbone

Treatment of Angina

Eliminating or minimizing risk factors of coronary artery disease by treating high blood pressure, lowering high cholesterol levels, quitting smoking, exercise and weight loss if needed.

Drug therapy, including beta-blockers, nitrates (such as nitroglycerin), calcium channel blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and anti-clotting drugs

Rest.

Angiography may be performed if symptoms do not improve to help determine if coronary artery bypass surgery or angioplasty is needed

Transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR) is a new technique for relieving severe angina or coronary artery disease in patients unable to have bypass surgery or angioplasty.

Lowering LDL cholesterol levels as much as possible using drugs .

Hospitalization if the symptoms get worse quickly.

How can I get my mother to take your medications?

Mi, the drug addict alcoholic mother has heart disease angina astigmatism Corroded artery hypertension hypercholesterolemia in osteoporosis depression anxiety asthma, skin cancer, cirrhosis of the liver enlargement, but suddenly decided not need to take medication because it dosent have heart problems and despite two heart attacks .. I tried to talk to her but she will not listen. I know it I will die I can do to take his medication?

Unless you can have it declared incompetent, there's really no way to force them to take their medication. She is an adult and she chose not to take care of yourself, you can not do much more than they are now. You can talk until they are blue in the face, but she will do what you want, without interference from anyone. It might be time for her to be in assisted living facility, but we must do so under the supervision of the State to do so, if and when she is, she can not refuse medication. Good luck.

heartburn or something worse?

i feel like i have heartburn at the moment as i have the burning pain i useally get when i drink to much fizzy drinks lol issue is i also have a more pushing pain in middle of my chest and dull ache on left side thesze both come and go for last couple of days as have the heartburn although i have not eaten since lunch. i have high bp also but is now very high at 170 over 120 i am only 24 but have strong family history also as my dad had a heart attack at 25 and has heart disease issue is i have been before to er and they daid i have angina and gave my a spray left that at work last week though and i dont wont to waste there time if it is just angina or just all the syptoms of the heartburn.

See your health care provider as soon as possible. To rule out that possibility, your physician could have you wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. You should also have a treadmill exercise test, even though you haven’t noticed the pain while exercising.
If those tests find no sign of coronary disease, your physician will investigate other possible causes of your discomfort. It’s most likely to be a temporary problem, such as heartburn or spasms of the esophagus. Occasionally, however, the discomfort reflects a chronic disorder, such as a hiatal hernia or gallbladder disease. Stop drinking the fizzy if you get a discomfort, also because you have high blood pressure and may be heart disease. And good luck.

this is difficult?

First, I got angina pectoris and then arteriosclerosis. Just as I was recovering from these, I got tuberculosis, double pneumonia and phthisis.
Then they gave me hypodermics.
Appendicitis was followed by tonsillectomy. These gave way to aphasia and hypertrophic cirrhosis.
I completely lost my memory for a while. I know I had diabetes and acute ingestion, besides gastritis, rheumatism, lumbago and neuritis.
I don’t know how I pulled through it…
It was the fu**ing hardest spelling test I’ve ever had.

is my heart going bad?

I admit I am severely overweight. I weigh nearly 300 lbs and I am 5’5″. I just got back from a trip across country and while trying to get through the terminal my heart started to hurt really bad. My face turned almost purple and I couldn’t breath. I was sweating out of control. Even my eyes seemed to sweat if that makes any sence. I only had to go 20 gates to my flight and half way there I couldn’t go any farther. The airport had to give me a ride the rest of the way. The woman sitting next to me asked if I was ok and I told her I just needed rest. My Dr. said it was probably angina and scheduled a stress test. I know I need to exercise but my heart hurts when I do. I have a horrible cough and am spitting out phlem. Im not sure what all this means. any one have any ideas?

Your heart is probably under a lot of strain because of your morbid obesity – I use this term as an actual classification because your BMI is almost 50. A BMI of 25 is regarded as normal. You’re deconditioned because you likely don’t exercise. You likely had an acute spell because you caught a cold and you don’t have much – if any – reserves left as far as exercise tolerance. Even people who exercise on a regular basis can have a decrease in their tolerance to the point of being tired just going up stairs while they’re recovering.

Weight loss is a factor of both exercise and diet. Watch your diet. Ease into exercise – people can have a greater chance of things like heart attack going from no activity to intense (relatively speaking) activity because of decreased reserves and sudden strain. At this stage you would benefit from a nutritionist and/or a fitness trainer.

Long story short this is your wake up call. Let it go much further and soon you will be physically unable to exercise due to strain on both your heart and your joints. Once that happens, it tends to be a downward spiral ending in heart attack or being bedridden or restricted to a scooter at an early age.

Work with your doctor – whether your heart is currently having problems or not, if you continue without making changes, it’s a guarantee.

Ludwig’s Angina Treatment Information

Ludwig ‘s angina known as angina ludovici. Ludwig ‘s angina is a bacterial infection of the floor of the mouth. From angina Ludwig is a rapid spread of cellulite bilateral and sub sublingual spaces, which can compromise the airway. The cause is usually a nfection bacteria, in most cases, staphylococci or treptococci, although other bacteria can also cause this problem.Comorbides predisposing Ludwig ‘s angina have included diabetes mellitus, malnutrition, alcoholism, neutropenia, lupus erythematosus, aplastic anemia, and glomerulonephritis. It often occurs after an infection of the roots of the teeth (dental abscesses) or a mouth injury.

This condition is rare in children. Swelling of the tissue is growing rapidly and may block the airway or prevent them from swallowing the saliva. Swelling of the submandibular and sublingual or spaces are distinct in that they are hard and widespread classic. Oral and neck pain, dental pain, swelling of the neck, odynophagia, dysphonia, trismus, swelling and tongue is the most common with the characteristics of Ludwig ‘s angina.Other symptoms of angina ludwig include malaise, fever, dysphagia and, in serious cases, stridor or difficulty breathing. Symptoms may persist for several days before the patient seeks medical attention.

Other symptoms that may be associated with this disease, such as earache and drooling. If the swelling blocks the airway, emergency medical help is needed to maintain an open airway. Antibiotics, usually penicillin or penicillin-like drug, are given to fight the infection. Alternative choices include cefoxitin sodium or combination of drugs such as ticarcillin-clavulanate piperacillin-tazobactan or amoxicillin-clavulanate were beneficial in reducing edema, which helps maintain the integrity of the airways and improves the penetration antibiotics. Surgery may be needed to drain fluids that are causing the swelling.

Ludwig’s Angina Treatment and Prvention Tips

1. Dental treatment may be needed to treat infections of teeth.

2. Surgery may be needed to drain fluids that cause of the swelling.

3. Regular visits to the dentist can prevent this situation.

4. Antibiotics, usually penicillin or penicillin-like drugs are given to combat infection.

5. Sometimes antistaphylococcal used drugs or metronidazole in this condition.

Does moderate drinking liquors reduces heart disease by 20 to 49%. ?

Does moderate drinking liquors reduces heart disease by 20 to 49%. ?
I was reading that moderate drinkers tend to have better health and live longer than those who are either abstainers or heavy drinkers. In addition to having fewer heart attacks and strokes, moderate consumers of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine or distilled spirits or liquor) are generally less likely to suffer hypertension or high blood pressure, peripheral artery disease, Alzheimer’s disease and the common cold. Sensible drinking also appears to be beneficial in reducing or preventing diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, bone fractures and osteoporosis, kidney stones, digestive ailments, stress and depression, poor cognition and memory, Parkinson’s disease, hepatitis A, pancreatic cancer, macular degeneration (a major cause of blindness), angina pectoris, duodenal ulcer, erectile dysfunction, hearing loss, gallstones, liver disease and poor physical condition in elderly.

Well, I suppose it depends on what you mean by moderate drinking, but I know that drinking can cause alcoholic dilated cardiomyopathy and can also lead to high blood pressure. Obviously, excessive drinking can also lead to a myriad of other disease states, but the aforementioned processes can result from average drinking in some people.

Can you clarify the different types of heart problems for me?

For a class I am learning about heart diseases. I can read their definitions in my text book but I am having a difficult time figuring out how they all fit in together and differentiating one from the other. Here are the ones I need to be able to separate and understand: CHF, Angina, ACS, MI, Vavlular Disorders, Cor Pulmonale and CAD.

They’re all running together in my mind, help!

CHF is congestive heart failure. Heart fails in its pumping function as an end result of any major heart disease.

Angina: Chest pain due to reduced blood supply to heart muscle, usually brought on by exertion, when the demand for blood supply is more. The cause is usually a narrowing of the blood vessel supplying that region of the muscle.

ACS: Acute coronary syndrome – sudden decrease in blood supply to a region of heart producing angina.

MI: Myocardial infarction – death of a region of heart muscles due to sudden blockage of a blood vessel supplying that region. This also produces anginal pain.

Valvular disorders: Disease of any of the four valves of the heart – mitral, aortic or pulmonary. It can be either a narrowing of the valve orifice or leak.

Cor Pulmonale: Cor means heart – disease of the heart secondary to lung disease. Long standing severe lung disease damages the blood vessels of the lung and elevates blood pressure in the pulmonary (lung) vessels. This overloads the right ventricle which pumps blood to the lung and it fails.

CAD: Coronary artery disease – disease of the arteries supplying blood to the heart. It can produce angina, ACS and MI. If long standing and severe, it can produce CHF.

A question about heart angina?

In the past couples years I’ve been experiencing chest pain and discomfort. It’s a tight, crushing or heavy feeling, almost like something is squeezing my heart. It doesn’t get much better when I take a breath, and seems to be worse when I’m laying down, particularly on my side [however I need to lay on my side because of back issues]. What are the chances that a seemingly healthy teenager with no pre-existing health conditions can have heart angina and should I be worried? Could this just be stress related?

Thanks so much in advance!

Heart attacks and angina are very uncommon in otherwise healthy teenagers. If you had an underlying heart condition, then it could be possible. Remember that there are many causes of chest pain besides heart disease, such as musculoskeletal (pulled muscle), heartburn, anxiety, etc. I suspect that this is related to a muscloskeletal cause, since it does worsen when you lay down. How long have you had these symptoms? If these symptoms have not been present for long, then it could possibly be related to irritation of the lining around the heart known as pericarditis. Pericarditis produces pain that worsens lying down and improves sitting up. It usually due to a viral infection and resolves on its own. If this chest pain has been for a long period of time, then it is not pericarditis. If you are concerned about these complaints, then see your doctor.

Crataegus Oxy. Q homoepath medicine?

I just bought from homoepath shop, how do I take this dose as I have be examined as angina patient, wanna quit allopathy treatment

Homeopathic medicine consists of nothing…no active ingredients at all in the standard dilutions that are used.

Allopathy refers to the defunct form of pre-scientific medicine that advocated balancing the humours, purgings and bleedings among other things.

If you have angina, you are literally taking your life in your hands if you stop following the standard science and evidence based medicine and other treatment that has been proven in clinical trials to help. Angina is a warning sign that you are at risk of a heart attack. Homeopathy has no role whatsoever in this condition, or any condition for that matter.

Causes Angina Pectoris

causes angina pectoris

How do you know if someone has Angina pectoris?

Are there ways to check? My friend has been having thses sudden chest pain attacks, and after having an ECG done, it was determined that he didn’t have a heart attack.

Could these chest pains mean anything? They occur randomly, sometimes while he is driving, so it is a huge cause for concern, since he sometimes feels dizzy and it would be dangerous if this becomes worse.

your friend needs to go back to the doctor for more testing. Don’t you mean EKG? Just because the EKG was negative doesn’t mean there isn’t something else wrong. Many things can cause chest pain and dizziness, not all are heart related 1 example is acid reflux (GERD) I had this bad, had severe chest pain with other symptions. Finally had to have surgery to correct it..

Has anyone experienced chest pains (angina) and headaches while taking 400mg of Vitex, once per day?

I’m TTC and have very long menstrual cycles (45 days with late ovulation occurring around day 32). I’ve heard that Vitex works wonders and recently started taking 400mg once daily. I am small and very sensitive to drugs, so wanted to start with as low a dose as possible. I seem to be having mild headaches and increasing chest pain (left sided) while taking this drug. I’ve only been on it for about 6 days now. Are these signs of an allergic reaction or overdose? Thank you for any insight.
By the way, I forgot to mention that I have already stopped taking this supplement, but was wondering if this is a common side effect. I can’t find it listed anywhere on the web, and my health care provider doesn’t seem to know anything about it.

I think you should stop taking Vitex and talk to your doctor about this asap. These symptoms don’t sound normal.

Interventional Cardiology Treatment In India At Affordable Low Cost

Interventional Cardiology

Interventional cardiology refers to various non-surgical procedures for treating cardiovascular disease. Interventional cardiologists use catheters – thin, flexible tubes – to get inside blood vessels for diagnostic tests or to repair damaged vessels or other heart structures, often avoiding the need for surgery.

The Interventional Cardiology Program at We Care India partner hospitals includes a team of dedicated interventional cardiologists, nurses, and technicians.

They provide the highest quality of care to patients experiencing the following :

  • Undiagnosed chest pain syndromes
  • Chronic angina
  • Unstable angina
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Congestive heart failure

Many patients experiencing the above conditions benefit from cardiac catheterization – using angioplasty and stenting-for the relief of blockages in the heart. Our program’s angioplasty/stent success rate, which ranks among the best cardiovascular centers nationwide, is more than 95 percent and its complication rate below 3 percent. Fewer than one half of one percent of the patients treated by angioplasty/stents requires emergency bypass surgery.

The following tests and procedures are performed in-house by our outstanding interventional cardiologists and staff :

  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Interventional catheterization
  • Coronary Stents
  • Angioplasty
  • Rotablator
  • Thrombolectomy
  • Balloon Valvuloplasty
  • Cardiac biopsy
  • Brachytherapy
  • Closure of patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects with CardioSEAL®
and the Amplatzer Septal Occluder System

Interventional cardiologists at the We Care India partner hospital are dedicated full-time to interventional cardiology and diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures and perform nearly 11,000 procedures each year, including 1,000 interventions (stents, balloons, etc.). Only faculty members from the Interventional Cardiology Program are permitted to perform interventional cardiology procedures at the We Care India partner hospital

What types of heart disease are treated with interventional cardiology ?

Interventional cardiologists treat narrowed arteries and weakened heart valves – often caused by coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, or peripheral vascular disease.

Coronary artery disease is the narrowing of the coronary arteries, the tubes which supply the heart muscle with blood and oxygen. This narrowing of the arteries is caused by atherosclerosis – the buildup of fatty deposits, cholesterol, calcium, and plaque on the inner surface of the arteries. Atherosclerosis restricts blood flow to the heart, which can lead to heart attack or other heart problems. Symptoms may include angina (intermittent chest pain), shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, and/or weakness.

Heart Valve Disease involves heart valves that are not working correctly to regulate the flow of blood through the heart chambers. This can arise from birth defects or through damage by rheumatic fever, bacterial infection, or heart attacks. Valves also can degenerate with the normal aging process. To compensate, your heart must pump harder, and may be unable to supply adequate blood circulation to the rest of your body. Two common forms of heart valve disease are aortic valve stenosis and mitral valve regurgitation. Symptoms may include shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling of the ankles and legs, fatigue, dizziness, and/or fainting.

Peripheral Vascular Disease involves the other arteries that run throughout your body. Like the coronary arteries in your heart, these vessels can become clogged and hardened through atherosclerosis, and can increase your risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke, or limb loss. Symptoms may also include pain in the leg muscles (particularly calves and thighs) and/or severe aching pain in your toes or feet at night.

What is a drug-coated stent ?

A stent is a mesh metal tube inserted after angioplasty to keep the artery propped open. Drug-coated stents (also called drug-eluting stents) provide an additional benefit: They release a medication that prevents scarring during the first few weeks after insertion, when scarring is most likely to occur. With traditional stents, about 20% of patients who undergo angioplasty experience restenosis – scarring of tissue around the stent – which can narrow or block the artery again.

Use of a drug-coated stent dramatically lowers the patient’s risk of needing another procedure due to restenosis. Although drug-coated stents were just approved by the FDA in April 2003, cardiac patients at We Care India partner hospital have had access to these devices for years, through clinical trials. We Care India partner hospital physicians have been pioneers in all phases of the development of drug-coated stents, and continue to participate in and direct clinical trials offering new generations of these devices to patients.

Who are the experts in interventional cardiology ?

The Interventional Cardiology team of physicians at We Care India partner hospital are world-renowned leaders in their field – utilizing state-of-the-art technology and procedures, many of which have been developed and tested at We Care India partner hospital.

Silent Angina

silent angina

what is silent angina as a heart complaint?

When someone has “angina” it is a symptom of coronary artery disease. Angina is usually caused by partial occlusion or spasm of the artery. Often this occurs when the oxygen demand of the heart muscle (due to exertion, smoking etc.) exceeds the arterial blood supply to the heart muscle due to pathophysiology (disease) present.

Angina is usually chest pain and/or left arm pain… sometimes it can be jaw pain or other atypical discomfort. In women and sometimes diabetics no symptoms are obvious tho the same problems are occurring. Also persons with transplanted hearts do not have angina since the nerves have been severed that would allow this. This might be called “silent angina” which could be dangerous. This could lead to what is called a “silent heart attack”. Where the person could have heart damage or even die and not be forewarned by the usual symptoms.

My Dad had 3 stents put in a year ago….?

He had a heart attack over a year ago and had 3 stents put in a few weeks after. Now, 15 months after the procedure he’s having frequent angina attacks and im so worried about him. He says he’s using his spray but could anyone tell me anything about this? Is it normal for him to have these angina attacks now? He’s so stubborn and doesn’t want to go to the doctors, yes i know this is very stupid. My mum will make him go. But i just wanted to see if anyone knows more about this than i do. Iv searched on Google but i cant seem to find what im looking for.

Many thanks.

He should speak to a Dr.

Differences between cardiac arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, angina, myocardial infarction & hypertension?

I learning about cardiovascular diseases in class and seem to be confused…the symptoms and how they developed..they seem to be quite similar…how do i differenciate them?anwers which are simple to understand really appreciated.
the question is not complete..is it?..i mean, the differences between cardiac arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, angina, myocardial infacrtion and hypertension.

When I was learning about the heart, it helped me to think of it like a cars engine. Cars have electrical systems that fire fuel injectors. The timing in the heart is electrical and when fired, produces mechanical results. When your car runs rough, the timing is off, and you use a lot of fuel. The heart is the same way. When the timing is off, the chambers don’t get full, and when they contract (beat) they don’t move a lot of blood. But the heart is still doing the same amount of work! People with arrythmias, have less energy, may be pale, and short of breath.

Atherosclerosis is like clogged fuel injectors. When the arteries are clogged with plaque, the fuel (oxygen and energy) can’t reach the parts that need it. Infarction means death of cells. Fortunately when your car dies from poor fuel delivery,,,,the motor isn’t ruined. When parts of your heart are oxygen deprived, the cells die. Most of the time, an infarction (heart attack) doesn’t ruin the whole heart. It just becomes weaker. But, unlike your car, the walls of the heart can’t be repaired.
Hypertension is when the pressure in the arteries is over 120/70. When the heart beats, it has to force open the aortic valve to get blood to the rest of your body. If the pressure on the other side of that valve is high, the heart has to work a lot harder. When you work a muscle a lot harder, it gets bigger. If you’re a guy on the beach, big muscles are a plus. But a big muscular heart is a problem. When the heart muscle gets bigger, the chambers get smaller. Therefore, the heart pumps less blood with each beat. But, being larger, it requires more energy and oxygen to do so. People with enlarged hearts have poor endurance, and are at risk for a heart attack.

Remember those clogged arteries? Now that the heart is larger, it needs more blood—-the already narrowed arteries cant supply enough and heart tissue dies.
Good Luck with your studies!

Coronary Artery Disease Angina

Natural Remedies for Coronary Artery Disease

Atherosclerosis, which is the development of lesions in arteries, is the underlying pathologic process that is responsible for coronary artery disease. During childhood atherosclerosis may slowly cause a thickening, loss of elasticity, and calcification of the arterial walls, a condition known as arteriosclerosis. Many of such deaths could be prevented by taking in control few risk factors which might lead to CAD. Few of such risk factors which need to be controlled are high blood pressure, diabetes and high blood cholesterol. There’re other risk factors that are required to be controlled related to our lifestyle, like quit smoking, maintain a perfect weight as well as start including physical activities or exercise in your daily routine.

Coronary Artery Disease is Caused by Poor Lifestyle Decisions

Natural Remedies for Coronary Artery Disease, or atherosclerosis is a progressive narrowing and hardening of the arteries which provide blood to the heart. Over the course of years and decades of poor dietary choices, external stress, lack of exercise and environmental pollutants, the normally flexible arteries begin to develop small cracks within the artery lining.

In an attempt to prevent blood from leaking through the cracks, the body uses its own patching mixture of minerals and oxidized fats to prevent blood loss. Cholesterol is essential for good health, and limiting production in the body by taking statins only leads to further health issues. Vibrant health is attained through healthy diet, exercise and stress reduction principles.

Eat a Healthy Diet to Prevent and Reverse Coronary Plaque

Following the Standard American Diet (SAD) which is packed with highly refined wheat, corn and sugar based carbohydrates leads directly to systemic inflammation throughout the body and micro-cracks in the lining of the arteries. High triglycerides and the plaque promoting small, dense LDL cholesterol particles in the blood are the end result.

The key to plaque prevention is to eat plenty of raw green leafy vegetables, seeds, nuts, healthy fats and lean proteins. Eliminate all processed, refined carbohydrates, sugars, wheat and corn products. This dietary plan will reduce the inflammation and high triglyceride levels which are the main cause of CAD, while halting further plaque progression in the arteries. This condition is known for having varying extremes. Certain people can be defined as being asymptomatic, and will have an early form of the disease where the flow of blood is not blocked. Doctors who perform coronary angiograms at this point may not be able to detect the disease because the lumen within the artery has not been reduced in size. However, the atheromatous plaques will grow into the walls of the arteries, and once they cause the lumen to expand, the blood flow will be restricted. Many researchers believe that this process took many years to occur, but there have been some cases where the plaque would rupture, and the progression of this disease would increase much faster than normal.

If the atheromatous plaques do not block more than 70 percent of the artery, patients will typically not begin showing the symptoms that are associated with the disease. Once the atheromatous plaques block more than 70 percent of the artery, the patient will begin showing symptoms. The heart will begin working harder to increase the amount of blood that flows to it, and the lumen may nearly become completely blocked. A patient who is in this situation will typically have suffered from multiple heart attacks, and may have angina as well. The restriction of blood flow to the heart is called ischema, and the cells will starve because they don’t have oxygen.

it’s a coding exercise the teacher give us the class
well i found some in the book that my teacher lend us
but it gives us only half the word such as “unstable”
since that didn’t work she told us a site we can look it up on and so far no luck..

Diagnostic Tests for Cad-hypertension

A physician uses certain tests to assess the patient’s risk of CAD, others to indicate whether he has CAD, and still others to determine if he has had an MI-a serious complication of CAD.

Blood Tests

A physician typically orders a serum lipid profile to assess the patient’s risk of CAD. A total blood cholesterol level below 200 mg/dl indicates a relatively low risk of CAD. A level of 200 to 239 mg/dl indicates a moderate risk; one that exceeds 239 mg/dl indicates a serious risk of CAD.

High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and LDL cholesterollevels may help predict the risk of CAD more accurately than total cholesterol levels. An elevated LDL cholesterol level indicates an increased risk of CAD, but a high HDL cholesterol level indicates a lower risk.

A series of cardiac serum enzyme assays can confirm an MI. Total creatine kinase (CK) levels rise within 6 hours after the start of an Ml and peak in 12 to 24 hours after cardiac tissue death. When cardiac tissue dies, CK-MB isoenzymes, which are found only in myocardial cells, enter the bloodstream. Measuring their level can help determine the amount of myocardial damage. Cardiac troponin levels may be better indicators of myocardial damage than CK levels .

The lactate dehydrogenase (LD) level also can indicate an MI. The blood’s LD level rises 24 to 48 hours after an MI and peaks in 3 to 6 days. Two of the five isoenzymes that make up LD-LD1 and LD2-appear primarily in the heart. Normally, the LD2 level is higher than the LD1 level. But when a patient has had an MI, the LD1 level is higher.

Other blood tests, such as aspartate aminotransferase and myoglobin protein levels, also may be used to detect an ML However, because these tests are not specific for MI, they aren’t commonly used. With an MI, the level of serum aspartate aminotransferase, formerly called serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, rises. But because serum aspartate aminotransferase doesn’t contain any heart-specific isoenzymes, the results aren’t definitive. The myoglobin protein level is highly sensitive to myocardial injury, but an elevated level doesn’t confirm an MI because trauma, inflammation, and ischemia also can increase the myoglobin protein level.

Signs and Symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease

Usually, CAD progresses for a long time without producing signs or symptoms. However, when CAD reduces blood flow so much that it no longer meets the body’s need for oxygen, signs and symptoms appear. The most common symptom is angina. Typically, patients with CAD describe this pain as a feeling of tightness, squeezing, burning, or indigestion. The pain may radiate to the jaw, shoulders, arms, or back.

If your patient is experiencing angina, he also may develop nausea, anxiety, sweating, shortness of breath, or numbness of the arms. Angina rarely lasts longer than 15 minutes and usually can be relieved with rest or nitroglycerin.

Although most people with CAD feel pain, those with hypertension also may experience silent ischemia-cardiac ischemia without symptoms. As elevated blood pressure increases afterload, the heart must work harder to pump blood, resulting in an increased myocardial demand for oxygen. Because blockage and narrowing of the coronary arteries prevent the heightened oxygen demand from being met, ischemia develops. Over a prolonged period, the ischemia may trigger angina, or it may progress to a nontransmural myocardial infarction (MI).

A completely occluded coronary artery usually results in an MI. An acute MI causes severe chest pain that can’t be relieved with rest or nitroglycerin. If your patient experiences heart failure, you may hear an heart sound or crackles.

What do you think this is? chest pain, also hurts when touch chest, help please!!!?

thanks for reading. i have been having reoccuring chest pain. i went to the doc today for the 3rd ekg and nothin bad showed. he pressed around on my chest, and like right in the middle at the bottom of my chest, it hurt when he touched it. like at the middle/bottom of my rib cage, know what i mean? hurt really bad

Took blood tests today get results back thursday. he thinks it could either be acid reflux, thyroid disorder, or anemia. he said that if the nexium doesnt make the pain go away in 2 weeks he’s sednding me to a cardiologist.

my last doc thinks it is angina. What do you think it sounds like? if you need information ask please!

Your e.k.g. are all negative. Your doctor gave you medicine to calm down a problem which he thought was wrong with you, then you started doing alot of exercise, not permitting your body to heal. The doctor should of already tested your CBC blood profile which would of given an indication as to whether or not you are anemic, he can do further tests and he did by the sounds of it. You could have acid reflux, if he gave you the Nexium, take it, it takes almost 3 weeks or so for the medicine to start working. If you are having problems with your digestive system, I do not remember you saying so. But your taking meds. which might be aggravating to your stomach.
Not enough information to say if you have a thyroid problem, but I have a thyroid problem and take med for it.
You will be fine, you are not having a heart attack, I think that a complete cardiac work up is a good idea, has the doctor down tests for your Vitamins and Minerals? If you are laking in something because of the meds which you are taking, this might also be an issue.
Hope this has helped you, you are doing fine and you will be fine.
Good luck and take care.
