Chest discomfort from quitting smoking?

I’m 23 and I quit smoking on May 1st after smoking half a pack for 6 years. A few days after I quit, I started having chest discomfort, and I still have it. It lasts all day but it doesn’t hurt, it’s just annoying. It doesn’t hurt when I breathe, it’s not crushing, I don’t have shortness of breath, I’m not coughing up nasty phlegm crap, none of that. I’m positive it’s not a heart attack or angina because I would be dead by now, and it hasn’t gotten worse. It’s also been very easy for me to quit because I was never addicted, I quit because I’m not under the high amounts of stress anymore. I’ve also never craved cigarettes. Sounds weird but it’s true.

How long does it take before I actually feel better?

Im not sure what the answer is but CONGRATULATIONS on quitting.

That is a great decision for your health. I have lost so many loved ones to cancer and other smoking related diseases. You are a strong person and I wish you the best of luck.

How Good Is Losing Weight?

How good does it feel to be light on your feet? How good does it feel knowing you may live a longer, healthier life?

How well will you sleep knowing you can accomplish most anything you want the next day—your obesity won’t be a barrier?

There are obviously many benefits acquired from losing weight. Though losing weight is admittedly not easy, the long term effects will be of help to anyone who suffers from unwanted and unhealthy excess weight.

The following are some of the remarkable benefits from losing excess weight:

Weight loss often reduces the pain of osteoarthritis

When one weighs a lot, the joints of his or her hips, knees, and lower back have to exert double or triple the effort to carry him or her throughout daily life. This can cause stress and tension on these joints. Weight loss decreases the load these joints must carry, decreasing or eliminating the pain of osteoarthritis.

Weight loss can improve sleep apnea

Or it can eliminate it all together. Sleep apnea is a condition wherein one can temporarily stop breathing for a brief period and then continue to snore heavily. Sleep apnea may result in or sleepiness or drowsiness during the day, and in some people leads to heart failure. Shedding excess weight could help in eliminating this problem.

Weight loss reduces cancer risk

Being overweight has been linked with a number of kinds of cancer. Specially for women, common cancers that are associated with being overweight include cancer of the breast, ovary, gallbladder, uterus, and colon. We are not trying to scare you, but rather to keep you informed. Men are also at risk for cancer if they are overweight. These may include cancer of the prostate, rectum, and colon. Excess weight, a diet high in cholesterol and fat, and lack of exercise should be avoided.

Type 2 Diabetes and weight loss

Diabetes puts one’s life in jeopardy, and reduces lifestyle choices for many people because of its complications. Both types of diabetes, type one and type two have been regularly linked with being overweight. To those who already have diabetes, losing weight and getting regular exercise could help in controlling your blood sugar levels. Start to improve now, but increasing your physical activity. You could simply dance, jog, or walk. Any activity you find enjoyable will help you to do it more regularly, and once that begins to happen, unnecessary weight will slip away.

High blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease reduction

There is a three-in-one benefit gained from losing weight. Researchers have established that stroke and heart disease are among the primary reasons for death and disability in both men and women in the United States. People who are overweight have a serious risk of also having high levels of cholesterol, as well as “blood fat” triglycerides. One type of heart disease, angina, can cause chest pains as well as a decrease in the oxygen available to the heart.

Many heart symptoms strike with little warning. By decreasing your weight by a mere 5 to 10 percent, you may positively decrease the chances of developing heart disease or stroke. The other benefits listed above should be enough to convince anyone that matters of the heart…matter! Now the next step is up to you. Will you take it?

Recovery time after heart stents?

My father had 4 stents inserted in his arteries 6 weeks ago, but although this has stopped his angina attacks he gets tired very easily and cannot enjoy the physical activities he did prior to the operation, such as playing golf. He’s a very active man ordinarily, and emotionally is finding this very hard to deal with. Does anyone know how long it takes on average to ‘get back to normal’ after having stents put in, or will he never feel ‘normal’ again? Most of the information i’ve found on the web relates to immediate recovery after the operation, but I cannot find good information on how long it takes to properly rehabilitate.

Heartdoc said it before me. Puncture site. Some feel great in a couple of days after it’s healed. “…like a million bucks” I have heard many times. Others who may have had heart damage to their pump (left ventricle) be it infarction or stunned/hibernating muscle can take longer to recover.
As well as they can restenose (basically fail). Definitely follow up with his cardiologist. They may have him on a betablocker that can make a person feel puny afterwards if the dose is too high. Of course all this mere speculation as to what is causing the issue. It could be as serious as stent failure,as mild as hibernating muscle or a simple medication adjustment or as serious as as heart attack.
But in general, once the fuel lines are open, people feel better and they are opened during the procedure itself.

angina while at rest

i have experienced pain on my chest. Is that angina or heartburn?

i already go to doct.he gave me aspirin with 2 other medicines(GLYCERYL TRINITRATE and ISOSARBIDE).The pain comes while im resting.when i’m running or exercising, there was no pain at all.But my heartbeat was so fast.Even when resting, my heartbeat=over 90 heartbeat/min.Is that normal for a teen?please help me…i’m too young to have heart problems..
Please e-mail me;mr_incredibles05@yahoo.com

Are you exhibiting the classic symptoms of angina with shortness of breath, heavy sweating, jaw pain or down the arm? I would be very skeptical about taking these medications for someone your age. I suggest seeing a Cardiologist, please have your doctor refer you to one! It is normal for a teen to have a heart rate of 90 bpm. This really does sound more like heart burn or acid reflux. Try over the counter medications like Pepcid or Zantac and see if these help. Check with the pharmacist though for interactions with the other meds you are taking! Good Luck!

Optimum Health Foods

It is a widely accepted idea that some foods do more good to your body than others. In other words, some foods are “healthier” to eat than others. In this article, I set out to examine some of the natural nutrition sources that experts consider to be exceptionally “healthy” for your body. Remember, you are what you eat!

The Apricot is number one on my list. Apricots contain beta-carotene which helps to prevent free radical damage and gives protection to the eyes. An average sized apricot gives you 17 calories, 0 fats, and 1 gram of fiber. They may be eaten dried or soft.

Next, I’ll strongly recommend the mango fruit. Accounting for approximately 50 percent of all tropical fruits produced worldwide, mango is one of the most extensively exploited fruits—for good reasons. A medium sized mango packs 57 mg of vitamin C—almost your entire daily dose. Considered a model “superfruit”, it boosts your immune system and helps prevent arthritis.

The average sized cantaloupe contains 177 mg of vitamin C—almost twice your recommended daily dose. Half a melon contains approximately 853 mg of potassium, 97 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 2 grams of fiber. The potassium in the cantaloupe helps to lower blood pressure.

Tomatoes, according to a review published in the “Journal of the National Cancer Institute” has been linked (although by limited evidence) to the prevention of certain types of cancer. One medium sized tomato contains 26 calories, 0 fat and 1 gram of fiber.

In the vegetables category, I’ll choose to start with onions. A cup of onions provide 61 calories, 0 fat and 3 grams of fiber. Onions are known to prevent cancer, according to studies. They have been used in Chinese medicine to treat coughs, angina, bacterial infections and breathing problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) supports the use of onions for the treatment of poor appetite and to prevent atherosclerosis. Onion extracts are also recognized by the World Health Organization for providing relief in the treatment of coughs and colds, asthma and bronchitis.

Next in my vegetables list is broccoli. One cup of chopped broccoli contains 25 calories, 0 fats and 3 grams of fiber. Broccoli is rich in a wide array of nutrients with a substantial amount of vitamin C and beta-carotene. Half of the fiber in broccoli is soluble, and half insoluble, helping to meet your needs for both types of fiber. Broccoli belongs to the family of cruciferous vegetables– which are known for reducing the risk of many types of cancer.

Spinach is recommended for its high calcium and iron content. In addition, spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B6. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, copper, protein, phosphorous, zinc, and vitamin E. This vegetable also contains omega-3 fatty acids in a fairly good proportion. The carotenoids in spinach helps fend of macular degeneration, which is a major cause of blindness in elderly people. One cup of spinach provides 7 calories, 0 fats and 1 gram of fiber.

In the “grains, beans and nuts” section, I’ll choose to start with “peanuts”. Peanuts, and other nuts, can lower your risk of heart disease by 20 percent. One ounce contains 166 calories, 14 grams of fats, and over 2 grams of fiber.

The pinto bean is another highly recommended potassium rich health food. Half cup of pinto beans provides more than 25 percent of your daily folate requirement, which protects you against heart disease. Half a cup gives 103 calories, 1 gram of fats, and 6 grams of fiber.

Skim milk is a great source of vitamin B2, which is important for good vision and, along with vitamin A, could protect against allergies. It also gives calcium and vitamin D. One cup contains 86 calories, 0 fats, and 0 fiber.

In the “seafood” category, the salmon is strongly recommended. Like all cold water fish, salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids have been proven to help reduce the risk of cardiac diseases. A 3 ounce portion of salmon contains 127 calories, 4 grams of fats, and 0 fiber. Two other great sources of omega-3 fatty acids in the “seafood” category are mackerel and tuna.

Menstraution Disorder Xiv – Menorrhagia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Menorrhagia is an abnormally heavy and prolonged menstrual period with excessive menstrual bleeding lasting longer than 7 days or blood loss exceeding 80 ml caused by abnormal blood clotting, disruption of normal hormonal regulation of periods, or disorders of the endometrial lining of the uterus.
Since normal menstrual cycle about 28 days in duration, with bleeding lasting an average of total blood loss less than 80 mL, women with menorrhagia over the menstruation may have blood loss greater than the body’s iron reserves and reproduced by the body leading to anemia.

I. Causes and Symptoms
1. Stress
Women who cannot adjust to events in life that are stressful, or seem to be stressful in their mind causes hormone imbalance resulting in overproduction of either estrogen or progesterone.
2. Hormone imbalance
For whatever reason, heavy blood flow may also occur for most women.
3. Vitamin K deficiency
Vitamin K is blood coagulation. Normally produced by bacteria in the intestine, women with intestine diseases may not produce enough vitamin K to stop the heavy flowing of blood during menstruation.
4. Anemia
Women with the type of anemia having red blood cells breaking down faster than normal people, may also have heavy flowing of blood during menstruation caused by regular blood flow and breaking off of red blood cells thereby, reducing the coagulation function.
5. Perimenopause
Women in the perimenopause normally have higher levels of estrogen levels and lower levels of progesterone because ovulation is less consistent.

Symptoms of Menorrhagia include
1. Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods
2. Excessive menstrual bleeding
3. Heavy period
4. Symptoms of anemia (caused by loss of iron in the blood)
5. Constant pain in the lower abdomen during menstrual period
6. Irregular menstrual periods

B complex is a liver tonic vitamin. It helps the liver to convert the bad estrogen, xanooestrogen into weaker and less dangerous forms and converts omega 6 oils into a form that can be used by the body to produce the good type prostaglandins instead of dinoprostone resulting in reduced bleeding during menstruation.

3. Cod liver oil
Cod liver oil contains high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids that control heavy bleeding during periods. Since red meat and dairy products contain arachidonic acid without balancing intake of omega 3 fatty acid, this causes the over production of dinoprostone leading to increased blood flow, and reducing blood-clotting ability.

4. Zinc
Besides having an important role in treating enlarged prostate in men’s health, this mineral is vital for the healthy functioning of the reproductive system in women as well as maintaining hormone balancing.

5.Flavonoid
Flavonoid is a powerful antioxidant activity. It helps to protect small blood vessels from damage resulting in protecting against the blood loss of menorrhagia during menstruation.

6.Vitamin A
Vitamin A is an antioxidant. It works together with iron and copper to help enhance the production of red blood cells. Vitamin A deficiency has been found in women with menorrhagia.

7. Vitamin C
Besides being an antioxidant that helps our body to fight against free radicals from building up and help the digestive system’s metabolism to reduce menstrual pain, it also helps excessive blood flow during menstruation as a resulting of strengthening small blood vessels known as capillaries.

About the Author

I have been studying natural remedies for disease prevention for over 20 years and working as a financial consultant since 1990. Master degree in Mathematics, teaching and tutoring math at colleges and universities before joining insurance industries

I’ve been feeling a constant pressure in my chest, around the center, what could it be?

I took my blood pressure this morning twice it was: 111/72 and 120/86. I’m worrying that this is heart related, ’cause I have family with heart problems including my father and I am very overweight. But I’m worrying that is angina or sometimes even a heart attack, or some type of cancer. But I don’t know if it’s anxiety, ’cause I’ve always been a nervous person plus I get stressed easily. And this pressure is all day, sometimes is not there, but most of the time it is. I did some EKG’s a month ago and I was fine. So if anyone has ever had this symptoms or know about them, please advice me.
Also I’m 22 years old.
Isn’t angina supposed to last a few minutes or been intermittent?? I haven;’t heard of angina lasting almost a whole day.
Just in case, I’m 5’8 295lbs.

Go to a dr and at least get an ekg done.
The second reading is borderline high- could it be nerves? yes
but with heart disease in your family I’d rather be safe than sorry. And for everyone telling you you’re too young to have a heart attack they’re wrong- kids /teens and adults every day from heart attacks. Usually there is an unknown defect but it happens
