female angina

Nitro question for angina?

I was given Nitro quick-told to keep it with me until I could do my visit with cardiologist and have stress test. I am allergic to aspirin, otherwise I would take a dose of that daily.
My question is IF i need to take the tablet under my tongue and the pain does go away, do i still have to go to er? Or does it mean I am ok, I am unsure how it works? I am 43 years old, female. Had 2 abnormal EKGs in the past 6 months, the first one, I just ignored and did not do follow up (i know not smart) Then I kept having chest pains , so I finally went and had another one.
I plan on following up and finding out why its abnormal. I get tired when I climb a flight of stairs at home, I am worried.
Thanks for your help

The pharmacist should have discussed this with you but here goes. If you take the nitro and the pain goes away, you need to make a note of date, how long the pain lasted before you decided to take the nitro and how much time it took to make the pain go away. You can take up to 3 nitro, each 5 minutes apart – that is the maximum number at one time. If you have no pain relief after 3, you are to go to the nearest ER for evaluation. The reason for the notes is to take with you to your appointment so he/she can see how often you are having this pain, how long it is lasting and how often you have had to use the nitro. Hopefully soon, you will have your answers to your symptoms.
