Angina pectoris – Stents and angioplasty
Once again – Strikes Back The stent
48. Smoker. drinker. A life full of stress
All the bells ring with you?
It's one of those "Once upon a time" stories that end with "happily forever "
July 2005. My wife and I took our caravan in Cornwall as he did regularly. We camped in a small park trailer charming and had enjoyed a nice break.
When it came time to pack followed our usual routine of packing and storing and carrying objects in the caravan, which included the taking and storing the tent.
Then he begins to Forst. The first blow. There is a box full pain. Just a pinch.
It was as if I had maybe pulled a muscle so he took me in but with a little care.
Over the next few weeks I started noticing these "needles" more and more until become increasingly common. When I cut the grass, put the cubes over a short walking distance. . . . . . . .
I finally started to worry, I went to see my doctor. He said it was likely that of a digestive problem, so he started to treat me for acid reflux. Then, when the work diidn't tablets, pills gave me different then louder.
However, points were there, now it had become real pain came more regularly. Several times a day. I went to the doctor because now I was more sure of what they were really bad and my mind was not due to acid reflux.
I sent ECG and other tests, including routine tests. Nothing. There are no irregularities. And the doctor insisted that he was acid reflux.
He made an appointment to see a GI and consultant while I was off work and struggling to function more more over the weeks. Then in November, after nearly five months of my first loop of the aircraft finally saw a specialist.
Idea I was initial endoscopy.
The consultant for 15 minutes talking about me, ask me questions and finally said: "I am not a specialist the heart, but I do not think I should be. It seems clear that your problem is not digestive, but connected with the heart and if its ok with you I'll Refer to a friend of mine who is a heart specialist "
"If there are two potential problems and one of them can kill you, then I think you should look that could kill the first before the cameras start to grow in the throat! "
And yes, I saw the heart specialist, after a few questions asked if I intend to have an angiogram. I told him I had no objection.
He explained that it was the injection of dye into the heart and control the flow of ink through the blood vessels and arteries to see if there is a blockage or other damage.
I do not understand, but I agreed and well, about three weeks later I arrived at the hospital to see what they would do an incision in the artery of the thigh and thread a sort of cable or tube in my artery until it is close to my heart, then inject the dye.
They gave me a little juice "happy" that resembled this beautiful warm feeling that spread throughout my body and within seconds, I do all have a care in the world. The whole procedure was particularly thanks single and happy juice and, of course, the local anaethstetic I felt nothing. Yes anaethstetic Local! It proved a fascinating experience.
I watched the screen became general for me to see and there on the screen, I showed the blockage in my artery.
Four weeks after being admitted to the angioplasty was exactly the same except that angiography Once the wire has a ball on the end and once reached the blockade, which swelled and broke the lock off and then deflates the balloon and inserted a stent coated with chemicals in the area where the blockage had been.
The stent is a tiny wire cage that is made from products of chemicals and artery open. The chemicals prevent the realization of adipose tissue or other debris sticking to the stent and more and more about it, keep thhus the artery open and clear
I was in the hospital overnight and was released the next afternoon. I left the hospital with statins, beta-blockers and asprin. I will take these drugs for the rest of my life.
However, from this day that I have never felt pain again.
Hall football game can, cricket, swimming 20 lengths, body board, make walks and mountain cliffs on foot and do all the things I did before.
I have my life.
My blood pressure is usually between 120 and 130 over 80 (ish) and my cholesterol is 3.5. My doctor says I am in perfect health.
The fact is. . . . before I had an angiogram was petrified. Very, very afraid.
I was afraid that something bad happened and I die.
I went to the doctor and I asked a certain type of medication that "the trick." Anything but NO angiography or angioplasty. I wanted to live, not die.
He said he simply could not do that, but my status will remain unchanged and while I was Using trinitrate spray would help, I would never get better and, in time, the condition can progress to the end and I have no choice but to undergo this procedure or die.
I'm afraid I can not describe when I went to the hospital.
And I can not describe the relief when it was over and that everything had been easy. In fact, was much better and more pleasant than the dentist!
I was in a hospital exercise program for six weeks and had the opportunity to push myself up and my pace 108 excceded never heart and my blood pressure was normal and that always gave me the confidence to live my life normally.
Therefore, if someone reads this and is in a similar situation. Do not be afraid. It is really worth.
If you read this and is in my situation and they are afraid or anxious; or have any questions, leave me a message and I'll help. Talk to him. Give all the information you want.
Go well. It's a life change procedure and significantly better than death!
That's when I started my first thought Welcoming Al Cornwall site. That's what I was thinking all the time. Being able to be well enough to return to my beloved Cornwall this summer.
I do not want my last memory of this holiday from the caravan and pain. I wanted to come back and be able to enjoy the beauty one of the greatest creations of God.
And now I do. Several times a year and I always intense hikes with my son 25 years old great shape. We are swimming, bodyboarding, climbing cliffs and walking paths cliff. We played cricket and beach soccer and I have mine.
God bless stents and angioplasty procedures. They really save lives!

If you have angina and is not relieved by nitroglycerin, is called unstable angina. Myocardial infarction or death described a cell necrosis infarction. Atherosclerosis of heart is the most common cause of myocardial infarction. The appearance of pathological Q waves is the most characteristic find ECG transmural myocardial infarction of the left ventricle. A pathological Q wave is defined as a shift towards an original maturity of 40 ms or more in any place, except in April and III. The Q-wave myocardial infarction occurs when the muscle is electrically inert and the loss of electricity produced from the infarct zone Left unbalanced forces of varying size in the opposite direction to the remote region, for example, a wall opposite. These forces can be represented by a vector directed outside the site of infarction and is considered a negative wave (Q wave) with electrodes cover the infarcted region. However, it would be prudent for you to go and call 911 immediately so that it can be treated in the emergency room and relevant tests (ECG, serum cardiac markers, cardiac catheterization and etc.) can be done to determine if you have unstable angina or heart (myocardial infarction).
